As the villagers and the Castle officials block his efforts at every turn, K.'s consuming quest-quite possibly a self-imposed one-to penetrate the inaccessible heart of the Castle and take its measure is repeatedly frustrated. Kafka once suggested that the would-be surveyor in The Castle is driven by a wish "to get clear about ultimate things," an unrealizable desire that provided the driving force behind all of Kafka's dazzlingly uncanny fictions.

The book itself is great, but you'll definitely want to steer clear of this particular version of it. Lots of OCR errors--it constantly puts apostrophes in the wrong places, and regularly you'll find large strings of meaningless text which seem to be taking the place of actual parts of the book! Shoddy work that Amazon should take down right away, if not refund the three bucks of everyone who actually bought it. Lord knows they can afford to.Product details

I m sure that this book is quite good, but I only made it through about five pages before the text was interrupted by random capital letters. Get a different edition.
I would only recommend this book to a lover of Kafka. The Castle is not as good as The Trial or The Metamorphosis, but it does effectively navigate the labyrinthine workings and adminis-trivia of government and the machinations and manipulations of relationships. Although not as long as Dickens' Bleak House, it produces the same numbing effect on the reader. You of faint heart turn back!
